Self-amalgamating tape
Self amalgamating tape (length 10m) to waterproof, insulate and protect against damp and rust. Very high resistance to water and ozone as well as high voltages.
PL-259 connector (UHF) without soldering the ground contact (assembly as with an N type connector - Sherlock system), for all cables between 10 and 11mm. Gold plated centre pin and Teflon (PTFE) insulation.
PL-259 connector (UHF) without soldering the ground contact (assembly as with an N type connector), for all cables between 10 and 11mm:
RG213, RG214, Ecoflex 10*, Ultraflex 10*, Aircom Plus, H2000 Flex, H1000, LMR400, RF400, Heatex 10, MMR400, RG393, RG11, RG63, RG144, RG165, RG216, RG225, RG8, KX4...
Gold plated centre pin and Teflon (PTFE) insulation. Internal ring (gland) in silicon.
(*) The center conductor of the cable Ultraflex10 or Ecoflex10 being larger than traditional cables, it is best to use this specific model for these two types of cable. We’ll help you enjoy assembling your PL259s!
Correct assembly of a classic PL-259 on an 11mm coaxial cable has never been easy. Here are some of the main drawbacks:
• The soldering iron must be powerful (around 200W) as it is imperative that the solder adheres properly to the metal body of the plug.
• Overheat and it’s the central insulation of the coax which melts. Also the central wire of the cable must remain separated from the braid (often this escapes notice and results in a short circuit). Also the connector and the coax lose their initial characteristics. This problem is exacerbated when a linear amplifier is used.
• The central insulation of the connector is often of imitation Teflon. The direct result is that the centre pin of the connector is bent by the heat of the soldering iron, especially as the body has to be very hot to solder the braid!
• To dismantle a classic PL259 which has been correctly soldered is no pleasure as it is difficult to heat the central pin and the body of the connector at the same time.
DX Avenue’s recommended solution
• The assembly of our PL259 with a gland is achieved in the manner of an N type connector which is considered as being much more reliable.
• The braid is constricted by a gland system (broad ring in silicon and 2 washers) and only the central connection is soldered.
• Although, because of the number of parts, assembly seems complicated, it is, in fact, very much quicker and easier to do than with a classic PL259.
• As radio amateurs do not usually consider a coaxial connector as a consumable item, it’s disassembly is even more easily achieved than its assembly. The connector can be reused as if it was the first time. Release a screw and the whole assembly can be extracted from the body of the connector. The only thing that remains is to unsolder the central pin.
Comment
• We have been careful to produce mounting instructions with photographs (accessible by clicking on "ATTACHMENTS" above).
• Ground contact by Sherlock system: The most convenient, fast and effective Mounting (see photos on mounting instructions documentation).
• This connector has two washers. The second, placed before the screw part, is important because it prevents the silicone compression sleeve from twisting during tightening. Many connectors on the market do not.

PL-259 PRO connector (UHF) without soldering the ground contact (assembly as with an N type connector - Sherlock system), for all cables between 10 and 11mm and specially Ultraflex10 and Ecoflex10. Gold plated centre pin and Teflon (PTFE) insulation.
